South Africa is divided into nine Provinces. Here’s a brief lowdown:
Gauteng: Pretoria is the administrative capital of the country. Johannesburg is the seat of the provincial government and the centre of economics in Africa.
Western Cape: Cape Town is the capital city of South Africa. The Garden Route is a popular tourist attraction, with the coastline running from Mossel Bay to St Francis.
Eastern Cape: The Eastern Cape is famous for its beautiful beaches across Port Elizabeth, East London and Jeffrey’s Bay.
Northern Cape: the Northern Cape is located in the north-west of South Africa. Despite it being the largest of the nine provinces, it has the smallest population, with just 900,000.
Free State: The Free State is a vital agricultural area in South Africa with beef and maize the primary products.
KwaZulu-Natal: This Province boasts the world’s second highest waterfall. This is also where the Drakensburg mountain range is situated, so if you like hiking; we highly recommend you visit here.
North West: The North-West Province links between South Africa and Botswana. It’s the largest platinum production area in the world.
Mpumalanga: In 1926 the Kruger National Park was found and it led to the abundance of trout farms in the area today.
Limpopo: This northernmost Province takes up 10.2% of South Africa’s total land area. Limpopo is renown having cultural treasuries, wildlife and spectacular scenery.
