Frequently asked questions when shipping to India from the UK
How much notice should I give when booking sea freight to India?
Aim to book at least four weeks before the vessel’s UK departure. This allows time for container loading, export clearance and any pre-departure paperwork, helping secure space during busy sailings and avoiding last-minute surcharges. Sea freight transit times can be 6-8 weeks, so booking well in advance is crucial to ensure your goods arrive when needed.
Is live online tracking available for shipments to India?
Yes. Once your booking is confirmed we will email you with the relevant flight or vessel details. The email message will be tailored to each individual shipper and include all relevant information relating to your consignment such as the number of pieces being shipped, the total weight of the shipment and the shipper and receiver contact details. It also includes the contact details for our agent at the destination.
What happens if Indian customs select my shipment for inspection?
Customs may open consignments at random or when documentation needs verification. If selected, the goods are examined. A small inspection or examination fee may be charged locally. Providing clear packing lists and invoices (if required) reduces the chance of delays.
How should I pack fragile items for shipping to India?
Use double-walled boxes, plenty of cushioning (bubble wrap or foam), and internal dividers for glass or ceramics. Seal every seam with reinforced tape and label the outer cartons “FRAGILE” on at least two sides.
