Border Force workers across UK airports and ports will take strike action between 23rd and 26th December, and 28th and 31st December. Strikes will impact key UK airports Birmingham, Cardiff, Gatwick, Glasgow, Heathrow and Manchester airports. Strikes will also impact Newhaven port.
Border Force staff are responsible for immigration and customs controls at UK airports and seaports.
The PCS union said they were taking industrial action over pay, changes in pension rules and to protect jobs. The union is seeking a 10% pay rise, better job security and no cuts to redundancy terms.
General secretary of the union, Mark Serwotka, said "This is a crisis, we have tried for months to negotiate with the government and we have been ignored."
The PCS union also said port workers at Dover could join the strikes in the new year.
UK immigration minister Robert Jenrick said the decision to strike was "unjustifiable and will ruin the plans of thousands of families and businesses across the country. While we are working closely with all UK ports and airports and have robust plans in place to minimise any delays if strike action goes ahead, passengers should be prepared for their plans to be severely disrupted. Those intending to travel over strike days should keep up-to-date with the latest advice from operators before making journeys this Christmas."
