The Chinese Ministry of Transport has recently implemented a new rule allowing its authorities to carry out random inspection checks on export containers at its ports.
A recent document sent to all national port authorities and Ministry of Transport agencies outlined not only the new SOLAS amendments regarding container VGM (Verified Gross Mass) but also informing the relevant organisations of its new inspection law.
Beginning on July 1st 2016, all export containers at Chinese ports will be subject to random inspections. This rule will be brought into effect in conjunction with the newest SOLAS treaty amendment which could cause more delays to the Chinese export market and international supply chains.
