Stellantis - which owns car marques Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat, has issued a warning that the future production of electric cars in the United Kingdom (UK) is under serious threat.
The global car manufacture has highlighted that exports of electric cars manufactured in the UK to the European Union (EU) could face tariffs of 10%, due to rules on where parts are sourced from.
From next year, 45% of the value of an electric car should originate in the UK or EU to qualify for trade without tariffs. This will raise to 65% in 2027. Stellantis said “it was now unable to meet these rules of origin” due to recent surges in raw material and energy costs.
